Scotland Apprenticeships

Modern Apprenticeships provide employees with hands-on experience of learning from their employer and the chance to work towards a nationally recognised qualification.

They offer lots of benefits to businesses, from providing dedicated workers to increasing business competitiveness. The apprentice develops their skills and knowledge through a package of learning at work and off-the-job learning at college.

Modern Apprenticeships involve a partnership between the apprentice, employer and training provider and are open to anyone aged 16 or over.

Funding for college training is focussed on those aged 16-19. A smaller amount is available for those aged 20-24. Public funding is not available after that, but employers sometimes make up the difference themselves.

Most Modern Apprenticeships are available at two different levels and three in Aquaculture. Depending upon the industry and the level, they will take between 1–3 years to complete.
